The title of my single “A Girl Is a Haunted House” felt like everything it needed to be and just not quite enough.
Us women are many things. We are mirrors. We are myths. We are archetypes. We are tropes. We are human. We are imperfect. We are perfect. We are on a pedestal. We are in hell. We are from heaven. We are from Adam’s rib. We are Lillith. We are equal. We are subservient. We are hope, and we are life. We are death. We are peace. We often don’t start wars, but we can end themwith a revolution. We are empathy and emotional intelligence. We are stuck in childhood and growing up too fast. We are rotten. We are entitled. We are brilliant. We are reckless. We are stardust. We are poetry, and we are spirit, and we are earth, and we are the moon. We are help when no one else will. We are glitter and we are shit. We are every person we’ve ever met, and they are made of us too. We make the strongest allies and the worst enemies. We are tears from the ocean’s salt. We are the flowers of the field, dewy with the morning and arid with the evening. We are butterflies, and we are the sparrows that eat the butterflies. We are held back. We are thrust forward. We are trampled, and we trample. We are Marilyn, and we are the Virgin Mary. Both holy in their own rite.
We ARE the dichotomy. Life comes from us—every aspect.
